چکیده

The geochemical characteristics of the hot spring waters in the Rehai and Ruidian geothermal fields, Tengchong County, Yunnan Province, China, are described and their possible environmental impact assessed. The results show that the alkaline spring waters contain high levels of K, Na, F, Cl, SiO2, whereas the only acidic spring water in Rehai geothermal field contains high levels of SO42−, Mn and Fe. As and Sb in the spring waters are in the range 43.6–687 g/L and 0.38–23.8 g/L, respectively. As(III) occurs in most spring waters, and constitutes up to 91% of the total As. A fraction of the geothermal As and Sb is trapped in the sinter deposits while most enters the environment. The diffusion of As and Sb into groundwater and downstream crop fields constitutes a threat to the health of the local population. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Comprehensive Census of Microbial Diversity in Hot Springs of Tengchong, Yunnan Province China Using 16S rRNA Gene Pyrosequencing

The Rehai and Ruidian geothermal fields, located in Tengchong County, Yunnan Province, China, host a variety of geochemically distinct hot springs. In this study, we report a comprehensive, cultivation-independent census of microbial communities in 37 samples collected from these geothermal fields, encompassing sites ranging in temperature from 55.1 to 93.6°C, in pH from 2.5 to 9.4, and in mine...

A review of the microbiology of the Rehai geothermal field in Tengchong, Yunnan Province, China

Production and hosting by Abstract The Rehai Geothermal Field, located in Tengchong County, in central-western Yunnan Province, is the largest and most intensively studied geothermal field in China. Awide physicochemical diversity of springs (ambient to w97 C; pH from 1.8 to 9.3) provides a multitude of niches for extremophilic microorganisms. A variety of studies have focused on the cultivatio...

Phylogenetic analysis of several Thermus strains from Rehai of Tengchong, Yunnan, China.

Several Thermus strains were isolated from 10 hot springs of the Rehai geothermal area in Tengchong, Yunnan province. The diversity of Thermus strains was examined by sequencing the 16S rRNA genes and comparing their sequences. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the 16S rDNA sequences from the Rehai geothermal isolates form four branches in the phylogenetic tree and had greater than 95.9% simila...

Thermus rehai sp. nov., isolated from Rehai of Tengchong, Yunnan Province, China.

A yellow-pigmented strain of the genus Thermus, with optimum growth temperatures about 65 approximately 70 degrees C, was isolated from the hot springs in Rehai of Tengchong, Yunnan Province, China. Morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics, pigment analysis of RH99-GF7504 strain and its phylogenetic analysis of 16S rDNA showed that this organism represented a new species of ...

Isolation of diverse members of the Aquificales from geothermal springs in Tengchong, China

The order Aquificales (phylum Aquificae) consists of thermophilic and hyperthermophilic bacteria that are prominent in many geothermal systems, including those in Tengchong, Yunnan Province, China. However, Aquificales have not previously been isolated from Tengchong. We isolated five strains of Aquificales from diverse springs (temperature 45.2-83.3°C and pH 2.6-9.1) in the Rehai Geothermal Fi...
